In deze minor gaat het om de historische ontwikkeling en culturele invloed van alternatieve religieuze stromingen vanaf de eerste eeuwen van onze jaartelling tot op heden, met nadruk op de periode vanaf de Renaissance (15de eeuw). Westers-esoterische stromingen leggen een sterke nadruk op persoonlijke religieuze ervaring als een manier om inzicht te krijgen in de aard van God, de mens, en de wereld. Omdat het daarbij gaat om ‘mystieke’ religieuze kennis die boven de rationaliteit uitstijgt en niet of nauwelijks in gewone taal valt uit te drukken, vertonen esoterici een sterke voorkeur voor het beeldende, symbolische en mythische. Die combinatie is vaak als ongrijpbaar en bedreigend ervaren door de vertegenwoordigers van de ‘officiële’ christelijke theologie, de rationele filosofie en de moderne wetenschap. Toch heeft de esoterische religiositeit grote invloed uitgeoefend: niet alleen binnen de religie en de filosofie, maar ook op het gebied van de beeldende kunst, de literatuur, de muziek en zelfs de natuurwetenschap.

In the summer of 2002 ZootenGenant made a name for themselves by their legendary streaming internet performance '8x8x72 Fucking Retreat', a meditation on the globalisation of intercourse, in De Praktijk.
Their performance consisted of 8 days, 8 times a day, 72 thrusts without an ejaculation. The gallery website went out flat by the enormous amount of visitors. For the inhabitants of Easter Island, who happened to have free access to the internet, '8x8x72 Fucking Retreat' was a tremendous hit. ZootenGenant have been revered there like superstars
And now ZootenGenant are finally back at De Praktijk with their Christmas show:
The Miracle Of Amsterdam
ZootenGenant travelled to the ancient Dravidic culture where, inspired by wondrous rituals, they came to Dramayana in the hotel bathroom and on the balcony. All this was recorded on video. In The Miracle Of Amsterdam, ZootenGenant show obscene/serene video performance stills.

a performance rhythm for june 21th 2005. In early 2005 ZootenGenant performed an planetary pilgrimage through Tamil Nadu, India. The journey was a quest and initiation to complex temple performances through observation and experience, crowned by discovery of empty space in unio mystica. For those looking for profound transformation performance events, ZootenGenant presents Temper Tantrum, a guide through the Obscene Serene. 'The ability to sacrifice at any moment who we are, for what we could become`' or`` Is self- sacrifice enabling us to sacrifice other people without blushing ?'
